AFL finals game between Richmond and Brisbane a winner for Seven

Seven’s first AFL finals football game between Brisbane Lions and the Richmond Football Club was watched by a metro audience of 786,000, while also winning all three key advertising demos, and helping Seven win the overall network share of the evening.

In March, theAFL season kicked off with Melbourne smashing the Western Bulldogsin an epic opening round of the 2022 AFL Premiership Season. The game aired to a metro audience of 548,000 metro viewers and came in the second spot in key demos, 16-39, and 18-49.

The AFL pre-match session brought in 334,000 metro viewers, while the post-match entertainment had 313,000 metro viewers.

Last year, the AFL season kicked off to 668,000 metro viewers, with the AFL Grand Final breaking records, becoming the biggest TV audience of the year. The footy game saw 3.006 million metro viewers tune in to watch the Melbourne Demons defeat the Western Bulldogs by 74 points, ending a 57-year wait for a premiership.

Nine’s Thursday night NRL game where for the first time Parramatta Eels smashed Melbourne Storm out of the top four for the first time since 2014, aired to 385,000 metro viewers.

The NRL pre-match session pulled in a metro audience of 258,000 viewers.

In the latest Daily Consolidated Total TV Report for 25 August, Thursday’s episode of Seven News was the #1 program nationally across linear, with 1.376 million viewers, including 35,000 on BVOD and uplift of 3%. Gogglebox on Ten had the biggest uplift of 36% and was viewed by a total audience of 822.000.

Looking back at Thursday’s ratings, The Chase Australia on Seven topped non-sport entertainment with a metro audience of 464,000, followed by Ten’s Gogglebox which brought in 381,000 metro viewers.

Seven News at 6:30 was the #1 metro program on Thursday, airing to 825,000 metro viewers, followed by Seven News with 822,000 metro viewers, while Nine News at 6:30 had 744,000 metro viewers, and Nine News had 738,000.

As mentioned, Seven won the night, taking an overall network share of 39.3% over Nine’s 24.6%, while Ten took a 15.2% share and the ABC had 13.7%.

Seven also won the primary channel share, and the top-rating multi-channel on Thursday was 7Mate 5.1%.
